Donna Howlett
Donna Howlett is the CEO & Founder of Modinc Skincare.
She told us that, “I was born in Sydney, Australia and grew up on a horse farm in the Central Coast (approximately an hour north of Sydney). I was an avid equestrian rider on track to compete in the Olympics. Unfortunately, a terrible accident with my horse derailed my passion for equestrian riding. At 15 years old, I dropped out of school and decided to join the workforce. While my childhood was very chaotic and full of trauma, my father was the one shining light who pushed me to succeed in any of my business endeavors.”
Tell us about your life before the venture/ leading up to your venture?
I dreamed of creating a skincare product after a gas oven blew up in my face one summer while on holiday when I was 17 years old. I was rushed to the hospital. After being diagnosed with third degree burns, the doctors prescribed some burn creams, and I was scheduled to undergo skin grafting and plastic surgery. However, my father did not trust the skin creams provided by the hospital and instead treated my skin with the juices from the aloe vera plants from our farm. The natural and healthy ingredients in the aloe vera ultimately lead me to a complete recovery. The doctors could not believe that I had not used the prescribed creams. It was then I decided I would one day create my own skincare line derived from all natural ingredients. In my early days, things were very difficult as I was a single mother of 3 children working 3 jobs to make ends meet. I was eventually able to gain complete financial independence when I created a successful business at Sydney Markets Australia where I was a Fresh Produce Broker. I was the only woman in a male dominated industry. My business eventually became profitable enough that I was able to invest in forming my own skincare company. It has taken me approximately 10 years to formulate and create Modinc Skincare. I was finally able to officially launch the company approximately a year and a half ago.
Tell us something about your organization. What is it about and how is it helpful for people?
My Company is a Skincare Company which is based on Australian Ingredients and manufactured in the USA. 100% Vegan & Cruelty Free. The products are safe for the whole to enjoy. Luxury Liberated and affordable for everyone. Each one of the products has benefits for your skin full of superfruits & antioxidants.
What has been the response of the consumers towards your venture?
There has only been positive feedback regarding my skincare line. The response has been amazing. It really has changed a lot of people’s lives with responses such as people with severe skin irritations are able to finally use a product that is good for them but also with a wonderful fragrance scent or if they prefer an unfragranced product we also offer that option.
How has your life changed because of your venture?
My life has completely changed since I started my company. I have relocated to California and have built a new life in the United-States. While I miss my family in Australia very much, I have the vision and goal to get Modinc Skincare in all households across America. I also hope to expand my business internationally.
