What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your corporate journey/venture/initiative.

The most definitive aspects are being an only child, which enabled me to learn how to spend  lots of time by myself, in thought and creation. That ability truly lent itself to the type of work I do today in thought leadership, whereby the ability to spend time articulating my thoughts is essential. Second, I was never the kid who fit in at school. I was academic, bookish and with a small circle of friends. That also, set me up well for who I am and what I do today. As I did then, I loved writing and 8 year old Elinor would be immensely proud of what she’s done today. I always maintain that I’m extremely fortunate to have always had the time and space at home to explore my career and pursue any venture. It’s a privilege that I don’t take for granted.

Was there any turning point in your life that changed your journey? If so, what was it? Please tell us the backstory behind it.

There were many moments that caused internal revolutions within me, it would be a mini series of its own dissecting the points that changed my path. The most significant of recent times will be meeting my mentor Ron Malhotra. There is only a time before Ron and after Ron, with the past being this black and white version, and the latter being this hypercolour reality. I’d just started on my journey to bring my concept to life, The Construction Coach and truly through divine intervention did I meet Ron. Being mentored by him is one of the best adult decisions I have ever made. Ron gave me the ability to live out dreams that I haven’t even dreamt of, and to meet the most important person in my life: me.

Every industry that is now a large-scale, top-notch business once started as a small idea in the minds of entrepreneurs. What was that idea or motivation that made you start your business /initiative? What motivated you within to say “YES, go for it!”

First, it was my vision. When I conceived my vision, I realised that I was well and truly in the wrong vehicle. And I tried to suppress it, but each time it kept on coming back stronger and stronger. Second was a definitive and depressing day in my corporate life, where I realised that this can’t be it. There was no way that working with mediocre managers was going to be my reality for the next 40 years. And then opportunity presented itself, and there was no way I would have given up on me.

Everyone has their own set of challenges when starting an entrepreneurial journey. Still, the most essential part for others to learn is how you deal with those. Would you like to share with us your challenges and your coping mechanisms?

– Patience without loss of enthusiasm or focus on the vision

– Understanding that a byproduct of growth and moving fast is disconnecting from people and places you once knew

– Having a very small circle of people who can understand the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship

– Learning that results take triple the time you want to see them in

How I cope:

– Excellent support system

– Journalling is essential

– Gratitude for how far I have come and all that is on it’s way to me

– Speaking to my mentors

– Deep reflection and introspection

Your journey and your vision are very inspiring, but are there any achievements or accomplishments you would like to mention?

Would you like to share with our young budding women entrepreneurs the change you would like to see in the world if given an opportunity?

A return to truth and freedom of our real nature and self. The world has fallen so far from it, and it’s the duty of those with vision and ambition to speak the truth, at all cost. To themselves and to the world.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in your personal life and professional journey? What is your personal motto in life?

Freedom is the most important state and value in the world. It’s the highest value and the one thing I will never relinquish for anything or anyone. I have many mottos, so I’ll go with one that’s defining me at the moment and it’s I am free to be me.

Women are a growing force in the workplaces worldwide, standing shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. There are cracks in glass ceilings everywhere, with many women breaking through to carve out a space right at the top of the pyramid. What are your thoughts about women’s leadership today?

Mainstream feminist narratives are not supporting the progress and outcomes women do seek to achieve. On the whole it’s a flawed narrative that places emphasis on the structure outside of them changing and places responsibility on some invisible party to create opportunity. The day I stopped listening to these narratives is when my career really took shape. I commend those women who have attained positions of significance and power, they’re the ones who have played the game well.

With your grit and determination, you are making a considerable impact, breaking through, and serving as role models for many budding entrepreneurs. What would you want to say to our young women leaders/audience reading this?

The most important question in the world you can answer for yourself is, who am I? Within that you will seek to understand yourself, and when you do you’ll understand the universe. And in seeking to understand the universe, you will understand yourself. From that point on, will you realise how capable you are to pursue any aspect of your vision, and have the deep confidence and courage to defy the status quo. Defying the status quo is one of the most valuable things you can do for yourself.
