Amanda Velasco

Amanda Velasco is a pediatric emergency room nurse and mother to 4 boys. As a mother, she realized that dosing of Tylenol and Motrin was difficult with a fussy screaming baby and as an ER nurse, she noticed other parents also had the same problem. She decided to take this problem and turn it into a solution and has now created a website and app to help other families. The Pedi Dose uses the child’s most current weight to dose Tylenol and Motrin to kids. It allows the parent to set timed medication reminders on when the next dose is due, and also has education on caring for sick kids.

What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your corporate journey/venture/initiative.

I grew up in San Jose, Ca. I’ve always wanted to help others and am happy I am finally able to do it! I haven’t always been like others and I’ve known that. It wasn’t until I started listening to Grant Cardone, Ed Mylett, Glennon Doyle, etc that I realized in order to be more, I had to do more and I was capable of doing it. Anything I put my mind to, I do well. My current interests are playing softball, making bread and baking, and being with my family.

While the global pandemic of COVID-19 is associated primarily with adversities, it has also brought about a true boom in startups, with successful entrepreneurship in many countries. The pandemic has impacted all of us in one way or another. Would you like to share your experience on a personal and professional level?

I experienced the worst burnout of my life, and I’m still suffering from it. I worked in an Emergency Room and nurses were leaving left and right and the patient population became less and less grateful for your expertise. I finally left the bedside to pursue The Pedi Dose and am still going strong.

What has been the response of the consumers towards your venture?

I’ve gotten so many positive responses from other Parents, nurses, and physicians! I’m glad I can provide a tool that helps more than just one specialty.

How has your life changed because of your venture?

I’ve learned to enjoy the small wins. There are a lot of uphill battles on a daily basis, but when you get a win, no matter how small, CELEBRATE IT!!!

Would you like to share with our young budding women entrepreneurs the change you would like to see in the world if given an opportunity?

Believe in yourself. Every businesswoman before you faced the same challenges and the same feelings, but they DID NOT QUIT! It seems like you will never make it, we don’t want to be seen as failures, but you can do it! Believe in yourself!

Give a motivational message for the audience/women who are reading this.

We have the power to change the world. It’s happening. Be a voice, speak up and advocate for change. Individually we are not as powerful as united!
