Mariah Emond

Mariah Emond tells us that, “I am a passionate health educator focused on women’s wellbeing, especially during the time of perimenopause. I have been in counseling since 2005 and have enjoyed the work of supporting people to lead their best lives. I enjoy a wide range of wellness work that includes somatic movement, neurophysiology, and education.”

Before you became the business titan you are today, enlighten us about the thrilling adventures of your pre-business life.

I started out as an adventure educator working on challenge courses and summer camps. My first love is sleeping outside under the stars and singing around a campfire! I then transitioned into occupational therapy and working with children with special needs. From there, I decided to go back to school for a masters in counseling psychology. I worked at a children’s inpatient psychiatric hospital, in the school district, and at a specialty medical clinic. I started working in the non-profit sector and my last role was as a Chief Operations Officer. I enjoy the leadership component and working with systems within organizations. I went back to school for a doctorate in health administration. Currently, I have been self employed and enjoy community development through workforce training and working in health education for women in perimenopause.

Could you elaborate on the nature of your initiative/ business/current role, highlighting its purpose and the ways it benefits people?

Saving your midlife sanity- So many women I have worked with didn’t understand what their body was saying to them! This is a stage in life that we haven’t talked about, we don’t teach about, and certainly have been misdiagnosed a lot! Women need more health education and support to manage the ever-increasing demands on their time and energy, the roles of caregiving, and the changes their bodies are going through as our lifespan keeps increasing! We need accurate health-related information, support, and appropriate health care treatments. My purpose is to raise the veil and talk about the changes our bodies are going through and to normalize the process of accessing accurate health related information. Our bodies are AMAZING and we need to care for them well.

What has been the response of the users/consumers towards your venture?

Most women I work with are so relieved to hear that they are not going crazy, that it’s not all in their head, and that someone understands the complexity of perimenopause! I have introduced a health planner that women can use as a tracker to help them better understand the links between sleep, diet and stress! This planner can also be used with primary care doctors to show the ongoing difficulties of their health concerns. I post short informative videos on social media as a way to help women access better information and find support throughout their life stages.

Having a strong support system is essential for your well-being. We would love to know who your biggest supporter is. Share with us and let’s celebrate the amazing people in our lives who make a positive impact.

I have several women that I consider my best friends that have been encouraging me and supporting me to follow my dreams! I couldn’t have been here without each one’s dedication to hearing me out and empowering me to find a way. Thank you, friends!

As a young woman entrepreneur, what changes do you hope to see in the world and what opportunities are you seeking?

Women are the majority and yet our health care is still a small percentage of doctor’s education. Our hormone systems are amazing and should be an integral part of our health care. I see our world changing to integrate more practices into the wellness of all women! I believe in the power of education to raise awareness and give voice to all women! We can have accurate and appropriate health care to optimize our health and energy!

Women now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with men in the workplace, breaking through glass ceilings to reach the top. What are your thoughts on women’s leadership today?

We are the answer- women should be in leadership in all areas of life! We have more empathy, more systems, thinking, and an ability to collaborate that is precisely what the world needs today. We can work together to shape the future that has value for human life and treats the world we live in, along with all its living inhabitants, with dignity and respect.
