Winnie Kamuya is the founder and CEO of International Renaissance Centre, Kenya. Tell us about your life before the venture/ leading up to your venture?
I used to have part-time consultancy work in capacity building. I wasn’t fully utilising my potential until one day a family friend challenged me to do the unthinkable. I had to set up a firm in a foreign country to work for myself. 23 years and it’s an experience that has changed my life. I didn’t have any business knowledge, any knowledge of running a business, any bank accounts, not even a personal bank account.
Tell us something about your organization. What is it about and how is it helpful for people?
Human development is an asset requiring investment, but it doesn’t have to be a headache. IRC has a reliable legacy through Capacity Building. Our mission is to empower the managerial cadre by continuously providing existing and aspiring managers with opportunities for self-renewal and development of leadership skills, values and behaviors. Firstly, we identify pain points using skills gap mapping. These present in various ways – from incompetency and stagnation to increased digitalisation. We then offer a range of services and courses, such as Leadership & Management Development; Executive Coaching; Team Building; plus Offline/Online Digital products.
We believe that results start with people hence to raise productivity people must be equipped with the right skills.
What has been the response of the consumers towards your venture?
23 years in business. Run two businesses at the same in 6 years before closing down one. Traveling the world. Have celebrated 45 personal assistant of the year award winners. Hosted lessons in leadership teleconference. Hosted conferences and seminars. Have celebrated over 200 leaders both women and men. Publish 3 e-newsletters (Imprint Newsletter, women in leadership Newsletter, The game changer Assistant newsletter) monthly with exception of March 2022 when we published a special edition for 25 days, and June 10 days speccial edition and April 2022 5 days special edition
How has your life changed because of your venture?
Got out of my own way. Got more bold and confident. Enjoy public speaking unlike before. Travel the world and network across the world. Help others to overcome their limiting beliefs, become bold and confident
